Depression can be deeply scarring and despite its common occurrence, it still remains a taboo in our society. However, many celebrities are now opening up the conversation, reducing the stigma around mental illness. Stars like Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar and Ellen Degeneres have spoken up about their own personal struggles. And now, it is Hazel Keech who has been brave enough to talk about her battle with depression.
The actress, who is married to cricketer Yuvraj Singh took on the now trending internet fad, #10yearchallenge, which has taken the internet by storm, to share a before and after transformation. Sharing the pictures, the actress not only commented on how her looks had changed in over 10 years, she also made it a point to talk about her mental troubles and how she was successful in overcoming it.
Hazel shared this post on Instagram and wrote:
Here is my #10yearchallenge
22 years on the right VS almost 32 years on the left…. and how far I’ve come! I was battling depression, starving myself, had bulimia, dyed my hair dark and kept it long trying to fit in a please everyone around me but hiding all the pain with a smile and joke so no one knew. Today, i can confidently talk about what I’ve gone through, i dont care what others think of me, i finally had the courage to cut my hair, i dont try and fit in anymore and i am happier, healthier and more at peace with myself than i ever imagined i could be! Wahooo #personalcelebration thanks whoever started the 10 year challenge❤️
The actress highlighted the fact that there was a time when she suffered from acute body image issues and found it really hard to fit in around people. It made her turn to crash diets to reduce her weight. This made her suffer from bulimia, which is a scary eating disorder.
Hazel, who is remembered for her role in the Salman Khan starrer film, Bodyguard, also enjoyed a brief stint in the 7th season of Bigg Boss. She also shared an inspiring post on New Year where she talked about struggling through 2018 but said that she had learned so much and made peace with her own self, calling herself strong, wiser and more sensible now.
